Well Informed: Implicit Bias
Implicit bias can be the result of many factors. One factor I consider to be the most influential is upbringing. How a person is raised will contribute to the basic infrastructure of decision making. Utah is a great example of implicit bias. Considering the fact that the overwhelming majority of residents in Utah are LDS, this creates a division among those who are not members of the LDS religion. This is true in all aspects of life. The existence of my own implicit biases were reaffirmed after taking Harvard University's implicit bias test. I was not shown anything I was not already aware of. I do not have a show preference for any specific race and I associate males to be the head of the financial input in a household. An implicit bias that occurs regularly in America is associated with sex. Females are routinely looked at in a different manner than males. Specifically, in the workplace. According the United States department of Labor, women comprised 47 percent of the labor for in 2010. A full time salary for a women was $669, which is only 81 percent of men's $824. Maybe this is why if feel as if men are better suited to be responsible for a household finances. Simply because men will make more for the same amount of work.

On the Media: War, Peace... and Clowns
Part 1
Columbia is currently in a process of trying to create peace within their boarders. Columbian government officials are beginning to use media outlet sources to gain the trust of it's citizens. For some Columbians all they know is war. The distrust among Colombian citizens and their government often mimics that of most countries.
Part 2
A "clown squad" is the last thing that your would think city officials would be aiming tax payers resources towards. Throughout this fall, clowns have been a big piece of local and national media outlets. They're are supposedly two types of these clowns those just posing for fun and those trying to incite violence. Those who are inciting violence appear to be in the minority, but are the cause of the public outcry throughout the nation. Young children are being lured and taken advantage of by these clowns. John Wayne Gacy may be to blame for the outcry of parents. Gacy is a well know mass murderer who killed 33 between 1972-1978. Is this real cause for anxiety this day and age? That is the question that law enforcement officials are not going to sit back and wait to be answered. As we all know the clown from Stephen King's "IT" and Heath Ledgers "Joker" are associated with violence and terrorism. The real question, is this just another fad?

Considering all of the topic we have discussed this past semester, I have truly began to critically analyze information before I make a statement. I feel as if this is true for most of the student within our social media class. Many have "jumped the gun" and made bold affirmations to their own personal beliefs and moral without considering the context of the discussion. Middle ground is generally a good place to start. Especially, within the world of media. One little spark can start fire storm. A perfect example of this was our discussion after watching the film "13th". The film introduced or restated the fact that African Americans are routinely imprisoned, where whites are not. Based on the information given, you would think that people would open there eyes to fact that segregation still exists in some forms. Our discussion after the documentary showed the opposite of that. One student in particular seemed to show no signs of remorse toward African Americans and the continuous racism that exist in our country. If this student were have done some critical analysis of the scenario that would soon play out, he might of decided not to be so outspoken on a topic that he clearly has no credibility to be discussing in a public setting. I think this was a good reminder for everyone in the room of the various viewpoints that exists throughout the citizens of the US.
